Things to know
Fostering a dog means sometimes taking a dog into your home with unknown training history, background, socialization, house manners, temperament etc. While we do our best to only take in dogs we ultimately feel are safe for placement, it is nearly impossible to determine a dog's temperament / personality in a shelter environment with the time we are allowed.
It can be stressful for both you and the dog to be in a new situation. Be patient. If the going gets tough we will help out with advice and encouragement.
Many potential foster families worry about having to let the dogs go to a new home. Adoption day is very difficult, but the simple fact of knowing if this dog does not go to his/her new home another Great Dane cannot be saved. Fostering may not be the easiest job in the world, but it can be one of the most rewarding. Everyone in your family, including animals, needs to be accepting of becoming fosters.
Help us with Events
We have fun events that we participate in from time to time to give the Danes in need a little more exposure. Everyone has a great time and all that is needed is a smile and a willingness to talk to others about Rescues in general and Great Danes. You don't need to know everything, and we're most certianly happy to teach ya all we know!
Help us with Home Visits
NO Great Dane is placed in a forever home without a home visit. The basics are... you arrive at a potential adopter's home and make sure they're home is Dane friendly and that they are genuinly interested in the Dane's welfare.
Help us with Evaluating Behavior
Not all Danes have perfect manners when brought into Rescue. If you have a special talent or a strong bond with dogs, you could help us with evaluating temperment and manners.
Help us with Transport
Every so often we have Great Danes coming from afar or heading to approved forever homes that are slightly out of the area.... even around town to vet appointments. We need help with transport sometimes. We are all volunteers, so sometimes we have to really stretch to get Danes to their much needed appointments.
Discounts
If you know of a vetrinarian who'd give a rescue discounts for services, or a store who might offer us discounts for food, let us know!
